Cristiano Ronaldo Apologises for his mistake

1Three-time World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo has apologised to Cordoba defender Edimar for the kick that saw the Portuguese sent-off for the ninth time in his career in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win on Saturday.

The Triple Ballon d’Or winner saw red after 82 minutes when he lashed out at Edimar in what appeared to be a punch, leaving the referee with little choice but to give the Portuguese superstar his marching orders.

The match was poised at 1-1 when Ronaldo was dismissed, but Madrid managed to grab all three points without their talisman thanks to a late Gareth Bale penalty.

Ronaldo is now set for a three-match suspension as his actions will most likely be deemed as violent conduct from the Spanish league. The former Manchester United man has since apologised for his actions and admitted that he was ‘thoughtless.’  It was very much a day to forget for CR7, who also could have been sent off for punching his opponent in an incident before that which was seen by the referee.

Ronaldo has been in sensational form this season once again and has further increased the gap between himself and Lionel Messi as the two greatest players but his actions will tarnish his image slightly. Yesterday, Ronaldo was captured playing football in the street with a kid disguised as an overweight gentleman. From hero to zero.
