Independency : Hopes for DayZIndependency : Hopes for DayZ

In today’s Independency column, we take a look at the DayZ standalone currently in development and the headiness of hardcore zombie goodness. See what we think about DayZ’s forthcoming official release before leaving your ideas in the comments.
A quick run-down for those unfamiliar with the mod: DayZ is a mod for Bohemia Interactive’s ARMA 2 and has been widely praised as one of the best zombie games ever made. Within its first four months of life, the mod achieved one million players – a pretty impressive feat, most certainly. Needless to say, this eventually led to the creation of the Day Z standalone, a work-in-progress that has countless fans frothing at their mouths with impatience.

CCP Games is reporting that the EVE Online and Dust 514 Fanfast 2013 has completely sold out. The team will be making live stream opportunities available for those unable to attend in person and will be announcing details soon.
Last week, CCP Games, makers of EVE Online and DUST 514, announced the theme of Fanfest to be “EVE: The Second Decade” as the combined EVE Universe approaches 10 years of continuous growth following a hugely successful free winter expansion in EVE Online: Retribution and the open beta for the free-to-play PlayStation®3 exclusive MMOFPS (massively multiplayer online first-person shooter) DUST 514.  DUST recently joined EVE on the same server cluster, providing an even larger universe and the much-anticipated Orbital Strike feature between the two games.

Camelot Unchained : Be Careful What You Wish For Dev BlogCamelot Unchained : Be Careful What You Wish For Dev Blog

A new developer blog has cropped up on the Camelot Unchained site. Entitled “Be Careful What You Wish For”, Mark Jacobs discusses the road he and his team traveled as they began to consider making an MMO.
Well, quite a while ago a friend of mine and I were discussing what kind of games could succeed in Asia. He gave me some tips and I filed those away for future use. Many months later I remembered one of those tips, the one that had been especially important to me throughout my career, use dragons! One of my first online games was, of course, Dragon’s Gate and I still wear the same dragon charm that I have worn for over 20 years. Putting dragons into a game is hardly new. However, what if our world’s dragons were a mere reflection of what these beings are in their own reality? In addition, what if in their dimension their technology is what we call magic? Then, what if a cataclysmic event pierced the walls (Veil) and the power from that dimension flooded our world – a world with no magic, wizards, and dragons? Moreover, what if that power brought these legends and stories, dreams and nightmares, to life all at once? How would the world be changed? Would it even survive? This shattered world is the backdrop for what comes next.

Dragon’s Call II : New PvP Features AddedDragon’s Call II : New PvP Features Added

Dragon’s Call II players will want to check into the game to take advantage of a pair of new PvP-centric features that have been added. In the first, players can join championship competitions for matched play. In the second, players take part in a no-hold-barred PK fest for supremacy.
Have any enemy with piled-up grievances? The “Duel” system will bring gamers a brand new experience. Gamers only need to click the role name of a player and select “Duel” to invite the target to fight; of course, this is a big stuff and the opponent also has the right to reject

Vanguard : Celebrating Six Big YearsVanguard : Celebrating Six Big Years

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes recently went with a hybrid subscription-free to play revenue model. Since then, the team has been working hard to give players lots to experience and look forward to in the future. We had the opportunity to check out Vanguard’s new look in a couple of areas and to talk with Producer Harvey Burgess and Game Designer Corey LeFever. See what we discovered and then relate your experiences in the comments.
Vanguard has the distinct honor of being the final Sony Online game to go free to play, a move that frankly surprised many fans of the game who waited for a long while to finally see it head that way. Since the August conversion to F2P, the player population has increased and continued to see ‘bumps’ at specific times including the launch on Steam and after significant updates to the game. In fact, after the Vanguard release on Steam, the population grew so precipitously that instancing had to be introduced into the game! During my tour, it was also abundantly clear from the number of players running about that the population is good-sized.
